Here is what some of our guests had to say:
Clyde Bant: "My family assembled from three continents to help us celebrate our Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary in Provence. Partly on the basis of information received, we chose to be in Arles and to try very hard to get this lovely property. It proved to be a wonderful joy to us all! It is an attractive three story townhouse close to the Rhone, to restaurants, to major iconic sights, to a huge variety of shops, not far from the Station and on the bus and shuttle bus route. It has the Saturday morning markets just outside. The whole environment was quiet, well-served and inhabited by the kindest and most helpful people! The accommodation had enough sleeping space for seven, and a balcony for barbecues, and a cellar as a games room. We were in constant touch the the rest of the world through the TV and internet facilities freely available. Every amenity a family would have needed for recreation, meals and all the comforts of home, were there. If we ever needed anything, help was only a phone call away. For example, it was arranged, through the owner, for us to have a tour expert call upon us and he told us of magnificent opportunities nearby, including the Viaduct at Millau which is/will be the eighth wonder of the world! The hospitality, consideration and generosity of spirit by the owners of this property and the enormous suitability of the property itself, have made our visit a major event in the lives of the whole family. So appreciative are we of all this that if the owners ever visit Australia, we will want to show them equal joy, if that is possible, so that their lives can perhaps be as enriched as our lives have been! We invite any reader who would wish to contact us get our email address from the owner and we will be pleased to answer your questions. For a provincial home in Provence, the chance to enjoy the majesty of this whole part of France, and the safety/warmth/consideration and friendliness for which the Arlesiens are known, our whole family whole-heartedly commend this house!"
Ann Minto: "The house was wonderful, had everything we needed for a brilliant holiday and thank you for all the details in it. It was a very special place and couldn't have been improved on. A definition of paradise has to be sitting on the terrace in the evening watching the light change from light blue to lavender to deep blue with the swallows overhead, sipping a glass of Cotes-du-Rhone, eating the local cheese and reading a book. We loved Arles and it was a great centre for visiting other towns. Local people were so friendly and I can imagine living here must be something special."Sue & Hank Pramov: "Dear Robert, we wish to thank you for the marvelous time we had in your townhouse. The home was perfect and the location was ideal. We were able to walk everywhere in Arles from the museum across the road to the coliseum. To reach other parts of Provence were just a hop, skip and a jump as the road to other cities was so close. It made day trips to Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Pont du Gard and Marseilles easy to get to and easy to find our way back. We were even able to take an easy trip to Barcelona to visit Hank’s family. The trip back however along the coast of Spain and France although incredibly spectacular and beautiful, had all of us in a white nail grip hold as Hank drove the twists and curves of the road. The home is fully equipped with everything one would need. Although we did not do much cooking, the kitchen is equipped with everything anyone would need to prepare meals if they choose. We did enjoy lunch with a loaf of fresh bread and a nice bottle of wine. We made use of the terrace in the evenings. The open air market is definitely not to be missed. From the beautiful fabrics of Provence to the cheeses, meats, produce and the huge pans of paella, it is an amazing experience. A woman selling fabrics in the market I believe said it best, it is a good life in Arles. I guess our only complaint is that we had to leave and come home. We talk about our trip and especially our stay in Arles. We plan to return because everything about the townhome, the location and Arles is ideal. Please feel free to use us as references for anyone interested in renting your lovely home. Thank you again."
Renee & John Hoffman: "The house in Arles was perfect for us. It was exactly what we wanted and needed for the two couples. The central location in Provence was ideal. We took the high speed train from Paris to Avignon and rented a car at the train station. We drove to Arles (about a half hour drive) and arrived at the house. We were very pleased because it was so well equiped and comfortable. Plenty of room for the 4 of us...privacy when needed and the public rooms...living room, dining room and kitchen... allowed us to have great times with our friends, that we would not have had the room to do in a hotel. The market was close as were the restaurants and sights of Arles. We walked everywhere in Arles and from one end to the other was an easy walk. We then used the car to take day trips all over Provence and getting on and off the major roads was very easy because of the great location. When we returned in the evenings we were able to sit out on the terrace and enjoy its privacy as we drank the fine French wine.....which we enjoyed in copious amounts. I was pleased to note that the good stuff was great and even the wine for 3 euros was really good!! We had a wonderful stay at your house in Arles and look forward to staying there again in the near future. We would be pleased to tell everyone and anyone what a great place your house is for a stay in Provence. We recommend it highly. One thing we would recommend to everyone is to be sure to allow time to attend the Saturday open air market that starts right outside the front door....and, if possible, do it at the beginning of your stay. We did it the morning we were leaving and we wished we had done it in the beginning because it was so much fun. All the best...........".
Christy & Richard West: "We found the house in Arles to be clean, spacious and very well-equipped; we enjoyed the stereo very much and an interesting collection of CDs. The house is well-located with the local market appearing for blocks down the street on Saturday - a real bonus. The location was great for us while there for 2 weeks as we visited all the surrounding areas of Provence by rented car: Aix, Orange, Nimes, Camarque, Aigues Morte, etc. The sights in Arles itself were wonderful and we have the pictures look back upon. This house is suitable for just about any group, be they young, or young-at-heart."
Maria Harris: "Your house was easy to keep up because you have everything set up so nicely. And I whole heartedly agree with your assessment of Arles, I found it to be a delightful city and the people to be kind and unpretentious. The other thing I would add is that I really liked the neighborhood your place is in - it felt very safe and lived-in. Many thanks, Maria"
Brian & Carol: "We spent a very comfortable week in this clean, attractive house which provided more than adequately for our every possible wish. This charming house was just right for our first visit to the South of France. During our time of booking and at all times following,Robert mine Host, proved to be a wonderful help in providing all possible information, answering queries and being absolutely obliging in all matters related to our stay in Arles. We made great use of the house from playing table tennis in the cellar, keeping in contact with the family via the free internet and having all our meals on the cosy ,delightful little terrace. Never have we stayed anywhere where there was provided every possible item one could wish for to make ones stay enjoyable. Although we did not have a car we found the bus system adequate to visit some neighbouring areas and caused amusement for the locals when travelling on the bus with beach umbrella and beachchairs tucked under our arms(thanks to "the house')The array of books to read almost made one wish for a week of rain! Thank you Robert for a happy place to wind up our 7weeks of travelling.we found all ammenities easy to use and the problem experienced with the DVD was a minor hiccup which was promplty and obligingly fiixed by the owner. We particularly appreciated the supply of French hot chocolate (unheard of in Aust!) and other kitchen condements. If Robert & family ever tear themselves away from the northern climes then we will be happy to return their hospitality in kind".
Britt Byron: "Looking for a Provencal experience? This is it. This is a home with a heart, not a commercial impersonal hotel. I could happily live in it. Additionally, Robert, the owner, is just a call away. We were there in March. Still a little chilly. Within an hour of our request more blankets arrived via the local manager. Just writing this brings back wonderful memories. Hope to return. Enjoy, Britt"
Nundrum, Baltimore: "This house was perfect for our first visit to Provence. It dates all the way back to Roman times (tell THAT to your friends when you come back home) but was solidly built and completely up to date in all amenities. It is on a tree-lined boulevard. The walk to key places in Arles is between 10 minutes (Place du Forum) and 20 minutes (Les Arenes), all through charming cobbled alleyways. The rooftop terrace was perfect. We practically lived on it. The owner was very responsive to all questions we had, and made sure we had a great stay. He provides much detailed information on the property. We were able to see St. Remy, Les Beaux, Tarascon, Avignon, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Aix en Provence, and Cassis, all in only three days. Most drives were less than a half hour, and the longest (and well worth making) was Cassis at an hour and a half. The kitchen was well stocked and very workable. The number of bathrooms was very helpful (there were four people in our party.) It was the kind of house that did not take long to begin to feel like home. Overall, we could not have hoped for anything more."
Robert Devereaux: "We found the home to be comfortable and very tastefully appointed with art and furnishings typical of the region. The location was ideal for walking around Arles and it was just a quick trip to get to scenic nearby areas such as Nimes, St. Remey, Baux de Provence and the Carmague. We loved walking out the from door to the Saturday market that seemed to go on for a mile into town. The high speed WiFi access was real plus and we enjoyed playing ping pong in the basement "cave." "
Sara and Mike Morris: "We couldn't have found a better, more comfortable place to stay in Arles. The house is just charming, exactly as the website pictures show. There were four of us staying for a week, and we felt lucky to have found Robert's home. It was conveniently located to walk all around Arles, and the first few days as we wandered the narrow streets, we knew by following the Rhone, we could easily find our way back. The kitchen was well equipped and the use of a computer was another plus. Having plenty of room for the four of us was so much better than booking 2 hotel rooms. "
Jon Lee: " We all had a fantastic time in Arles at your house. It is in an excellent location, we will hopefully try and book it for next year for the Arles Photo Festival. Many thanks again for a wonderful place to stay. "
Bob & Ann Hammersmith: " Once again we would like to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at the house in Arles. We really liked the Saturday markets and took advantage of all the fresh produce and fish to make a few dinners at home. It was nice to be able to cook some of our meals at home rather than eating in a restaurant all the time. My daughter had some recipes she brought with her and had a great time cooking us dinner in the Mediterranean style. Since we had two weeks we were able to tour quite a bit of Provence. The trains and buses were reliable enough to get around in good time and we covered a large part of the western Provence. The next time we come I will rent a car for a few days to get to the small towns that are not assessable by public transport. Even though we had two weeks there were places we did not see because of time limits. If you want further compliments about the house feel free to refer any potential renter to me. My family and I are witness to what a great place it is when staying in Arles. My daughter and son-in-law are talking about a return to Arles next year. My wife and I are not certain about what we want to do so any firm plans cannot be made at this time. If we decide to come back I'll get in contact with you as soon as possible. It is probably the best place we have stayed in since we have been going to Europe. "
George & Barbara Taylor: " It just occurred to me that I hadn't thanked you for the wonderful week in Arles. Had a really marvellous week. Despite high wind from the north everyday, we cycled all over the place -- nearly got blown off the corniche in Marseille yesterday. Your house is delightful. We couldn't have asked for more. We loved your house ... location, amenities, decor, cleanliness, etc. ... everything was top class. It was a delightful holiday. I'll recommend you to anyone I know who is planning a trip to the Rhone Delta region. Again, thanks for thinking of EVERYTHING to make us welcome. Robert ... many many thanks. And our best to you, too, and to your lovely wife -- I know she's lovely because you are such a nice guy. "
Craig Henderson: " Prior to arriving at the house, I was concerned about the apparent proximity to the highway, when viewed from Google Maps, but I can say with complete confidence and sincerity that the location of the house was ideal. It was on the fringe of the old town Arles, a prime spot for walking and it did not require us to drive the narrow streets of the old town. The location made it very easy to get to and from the highway, which was a prime advantage for using the house for a base. We were quickly on our way south, east or west because of the location. I also liked the location because I could conveniently ride my bicycle over the river bridge, almost right outside the house front door; up or down the river bank; or over the canal to see the Van Gogh bridge, without having to compete with cars. So, suffice to say, the highway proximity was more of an advantage than a disadvantage. Noise was not a factor. "
Bill Merka: " The apartment was comfortable and very clean. The four levels proved to be a good thing as the bedrooms were on seperate floors. The street level kitchen and living area made bringing home groceries easy to store and cook. The Saturday market contained so many goodies that it was hard to know which to buy first. Morning breakfast was a delight as we would walk up the narrow street to the Forum Square and get wonderful sausages from the meat market and pasteries from the shop on Forum Square. No granola for us! Tuyet, the house manager, was readily available for assistance when it was needed. Arles proved to be a good central location for touring Provence.Proximity to the interstate made it easy to get to the touring areas rapidly. The French drivers are not agressive and are courteous so driving is easy once one learns the circles. the TVG is amazing, Paris to Avignon in less than 3 hours. Having wine and sandwiches and viewing the beautiful French countryside a 180 MPH is a once in a lifetime experience! "
Colin Irwin: "This house is very clean and has a convenient location in Arles. We stayed for 2 weeks and shopped locally, cooking many of our meals in which was great and made us feel at home. The Saturday market right outside the front door is wonderful for vegetables, cheese, and meat. We used the house as a base for day trips throughout the region. Highly recommended! "
Jon Anderson: "Returning to 118 blvd. Clemenceau was like coming home, after other holiday rentals and the limited charms of hotel life. Behind an unprepossessing exterior is a superior, professional restoration and updating of an old-Arles townhouse, well furnished and meticulously maintained. Two large and light bedrooms, a stand-up shower, toilets on all three floors, and a very usable study (with another fold-out bed), plus a sitting room and eat-in kitchen more than accommodated our family (of three). Hotel rooms at the same price – at any price – do not come with washer and dryer, which are essential in these travel-light days of airlines’ charging extra for luggage – and none so spacious or comfortably fitted out. We found it easy to settle in. The evidently house-proud owners have a very attentive maintenance service, ready to attend to the slightest repair with alacrity. The neighborhood has several bakeries, groceries are a five-minute walk, and the strollable riverside is literally around the corner. Sited on the edge of old Arles, this is not Peter Mayle’s Provence: it is a lot more convenient than lavender fields and has its own charms, as well as a plethora of restaurants and cafes within walking distance and easy get-away via the nearby autoroute. The roof terrace is as quiet as any in a city, nestled in treetops, and we found it lovely to read and dine there. It is especially pleasant for breakfast before the sun rises too high and in the evenings. On-ramps to the autoroute at each end of the facing street make getaways for exploring Provence easy. If you don’t get away, Arles is a delightful small city that absorbs tourists into its byways instead of being swamped by them like, say, Avignon or those villages in the Vaucluse. The neighborhood with its eclectic mix of residents is on the quiet side of the old city and has a fabulous Saturday market that is itself vaut le voyage. "
Bob Hammersmith: "Dear Robert, I am writing to let you and your wife know that my wife,daughter,son-in-law and I were delighted with the house in Arles. It had a warm comfortable feeling almost as good as home. When we arrived I looked into public transportation and decided to cancel the rental car. There is a bus stop across the street for a free bus that took us to the bus depot in town, the train station, and many other parts of the old town. We were able to get buses and trains to many other towns in Provence so I did not need a car. The house was also convenient to a well stocked grocery and several places to obtain excellent take out food for dinner at home. I can say without exaggeration that we all had an excellent time and completely enjoyed our stay at your house as a perfect place for experiencing Arles. So much so that we decided to come back in the future. "
